This week we saw the Minnesota Pro-Day, showcasing stud wideout Rashod Bateman, but there was more on display than Bateman. FCF Stud and People’s Champion Jackson “Jerdy” Erdmann was throwing the ball to Bateman. After getting mentioned on Good Morning Football (despite some mention of “lack of stats” for the FCF) the Chicago Bears reached out and showed some interest. Chicago is on record saying that they are gonna look at every available option for their QB. With the signing of Andy Dalton, and the declaration of Dalton as QB1, we can expect the Bears can be doing anything from Drafting a QB in the 3-7th round or looking to undrafted free agents. With the desire to fill the need at QB, who better to select than the guy who had a better college career than their former 3rd round draft pick Mitch Trubisky. In one season, Erdmann eclipsed Trubsiky’s entire collegiate career throwing for 5040 yards, 47 tds to 10 int, and a completion percentage of 64% and a passer rating of 121.886. The only reason he didn’t get drafted? Covid forced division 3 schools to shut down. So Erdmann went to the FCF, maintained a passer rating over 100, and won a championship. While the modern NFL is going in the direction of the mobile QB, pocket passing isn’t dead. With Erdmann you get a QB who makes reads quickly and can get the ball safely to the open man. No risky throws, few bad reads, and can create time under pressure. This is not to say Trubisky is a bad QB, I think going to Buffalo will help boost his career, what I am saying is Trubisky is a more pro-ready QB than Trubisky was in 2016. Another strong plus is his ability to adapt and grow over the course of the season. Each week you won’t get the same Erdmann as last week, you will watch him improve and do better. Learning from one’s mistakes is important, especially the quarterback position. Despite his desire to stay in the pocket and use his legs last, his pass accuracy and intelligence are bigger assets in my opinion. The style of offense Matt Naggy runs is still under construction, but there is no debate that they have some strong weapons offensively. Three RB studs in Tarik Cohen, David Montgomery, and Damien Williams with Jimmy Graham at TE and Allen Robinson locked at WR. The offensive line leaves something to be desired, along with wide receiver depth. But with Andy Dalton and Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles to act as mentors, it wouldn’t be terrible to invest in Jerdy. The Chicago Bears, as a whole, are far from perfect. They struggle to keep consistent Offensive Coordinators, Head coaches, they lack a good front line and wide receiver depth. The Bears have a lot of holes to fill, but locking up Erdmann may be the blessing in disguise they need to relax themselves about the quarterback position. |
